York College Refurbishment Works

York College

Location

York

Duration

38 Weeks

Scale

10 rooms over four floors

Value

450k

We were tasked with refurbishing ten classrooms and common areas over four floors of York College. Within these were rooms with a variety of requirements including a technology lab, robotics workshop, IT and manufacturing suite, dance studio, beauty salon, and a social hub. As many of these rooms required specialist elements – be it cabling to support computers and technology or sinks for the salon – this was not just a case of modernising the spaces, each room had to be carefully planned and the impact of the work on the rest of the college considered.

The project involved stripping out the old rooms, and installing new partitions, doors, flooring, ceilings, wall cladding, and furniture. There was also a large mechanical and electrical element, which included updates to lighting, power, data, air conditioning, ventilation, and audio-visual equipment.

Refurbishment • M&E

A key consideration throughout this project was working in a busy live environment. The college remained open throughout the works, so we had to ensure everyone’s safety and keep disruption to a minimum. This required careful planning, implementing our live site procedures and – when necessary – working flexible hours to avoid disturbing lectures.
