As part of our ongoing work with Scottish Power Renewables, we were tasked with delivering fibre optic upgrades and repair works at Whitelee Windfarm, on Eaglesham Moor, near Glasgow. Whitelee is the UK’s largest onshore windfarm; its 215 turbines generate up to 539 megawatts of electricity – enough to power more than 350,000 homes.

Commissioned in 2008, Whitelee Windfarm originally consisted of 140 turbines. It opened to the public in 2009 and is a Scottish Tourist Board Four-star Visitor Attraction. Since opening, the windfarm has undergone two phases of extensions. Phase 1 added 36 new turbines to the development, whilst phase 2 added a further 39 turbines, bringing the site to its current total of 215 turbines.
