Positive Partnerships for P&M

Spencer Lee

By Spencer Lee – Director of Production & Manufacturing

As we move into 2025, the production and manufacturing (P&M) sector remains buoyant. In the last year, the UK has climbed from 9th to 8th place in the global manufacturing rankings, cementing its role as a key player in the industry.

Manufacturers are looking to improve quality and efficiencies by investing in new products and increasing digitalisation and automation. These areas often require a change of machinery or a refurbishment of facilities, and in response, our P&M business has also been growing.

We’re seeing particular growth in the food and drink sector, which makes up the biggest subset within our P&M business. Many of our projects are with blue chip clients, and we work closely with them on their individual needs to provide bespoke solutions to any number of challenges.

Business Protection

In this industry, operations can’t simply stop while work is being undertaken. We specialise in working in live environments to build, reconfigure and upgrade production facilities and offices, as well as providing the installation and refurbishment of mechanical and electrical equipment.

Our team has years of experience carefully managing projects whilst minimising disruption to ongoing processes – a crucial part of our offering is to ensure that our clients can continue to run 24/7, with zero impact on their operating efficiencies.

Key to this is ensuring there is no impact on air quality – particularly within a food and drink environment. We monitor for dust and check full air conditions – both internally in our work area and externally – to ensure we’re not affecting production facilities.

We act as an extension of our client’s teams, embedding ourselves into their projects to deliver the best results. We’ve established long-standing relationships because of this and have worked with clients – such as Britvic – on multiple projects for many years, covering everything from production lines and mechanical and electrical works to office refurbishments, and building new infrastructure.

Innovative thinking

As well as providing a solution today, we’re constantly adapting to meet the needs of our clients for the future. We know that efficiency will continue to grow as a driver for manufacturing, with ‘digital twins’ – real-time virtual representations of the factory – set to revolutionise how decisions are made within factories. This is something we’re anticipating and working on so we’re ready to respond as soon as the sector demands it – evolving with our clients when they need us.

End to end service

The breadth of our experience across many different aspects of the production facility makes us unique, especially as we can offer it internally through the eight portfolio businesses within the Morris & Spottiswood Group.

Together, we provide fit-out, retro-fit and refurbishment services; mechanical and electrical (M&E) services; in-house architectural services; maintenance, space development and furnishing, and a full range of carbon reduction solutions; We have a true turnkey solution, from early inception to design, sustainability, delivery and beyond.

With early engagement, anything is possible. Our team can support at every step, offering an end-to-end delivery which is unique in the market.
